Treatment
Kieron requires day to day Physio, speech & language and Occupational Therapy sessions, most of which are commutable from his home or at the Special Needs school that he attends in Staffordshire (Blackfriars). Kieron also attends the Bobath Centre for children with Cerebral Palsy in London, where he undertakes an intense 1 on 1 block period that mainly focuses on his posture, movement and communication skills. To date the Bobath centre treatment has enabled Kieron to roll to 1 side, sit unsupported and he has even started to lift a spoon to his own mouth (it may not sound like much, but to witness the changes are emotional).
Without the expert knowledge of Kieron's therapists, special mentions to
Kerry Barrow of the BOBATH Centre, The Laurel Centre Stowmarket & Sarah Newell, Kieron's portage worker, who were all totally commited to Kieron and the rest of the family, none of this would be achievable.
Each block period at the BOBATH Centre consists of a 2 hour a day session for 2 weeks, which also teaches my wife and I how to conduct the therapy he needs at home. These sessions cost on average £3000, and believe me! they are more than worth it! Kieron has been recommended for Bobath treatment at least 3 times a year, unfortunatly this will not be funded by the NHS because of lack of funds.
